A Near Miss and A Give-away!! Psalm 90:12

Thank God I am alive!! Today, I experienced the mercy and grace and protection of the Lord of such magnitude that I am still reeling from it. This afternoon, just as I bent over to pull some weeds in my garden, I heard and felt a loud shrill buzz beside my right ear. My husband was standing in front and off to my left side when it happened. He had just started his Troy Built tiller and heard my scream over the noise. He shut it down and looked at me with: “Was that a bullet? I heard something hit behind me.”
A bullet!!
We live on an 85 acre farm. Our garden is back off the road and down over a slight bank. Across the road, nearly a mile away, some men were shooting high powered rifles. And one of their bullets traveled up over a small hill, through dense woods, down the other side and across the county road, through our yard, over the bank and whizzed past my ear. We found the hole where the bullet hit a small shed. One centimeter closer, and I would have been crossing Jordan to stand before my Savior. It was soo close, I felt for my ear and screamed, thinking something ungodly had just dive bombed me.
As I write this, I am shivering. That sound will never leave me. The thought that it could have gone horribly wrong will never leave me. The knowledge that the Lord placed a protective hedge around me, will never leave me!
I am here, now, writing this, because of the love of the Lord. Our days are numbered, the Psalmist says. I still have another day. Do you? Do you know the Lord in a saving way, an intimate way? Are you, as a saved Christian, living your life in such a way as to glorify Him? Do you trust in His promises to protect and keep you? We simply don’t know what each day holds. That bullet could have hit me, my husband, or any number of people who were driving by at the time!!
Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days that we might apply our hearts to wisdom.”

I am going to give away one of my books of poetry to anyone who comments on this with a verse of scripture as a promise of God’s grace, His mercy, His loving-kindness. Please email me with your name and address if you would like to receive a copy of Poems of Power and Praise~my very first attempt at writing. ; )

UPDATE:
Since people are asking~yes, I did call 911. Two county sheriffs came out and eventually found the men responsible. They had several high-powered rifles~this is one of them: an M1 Garand (semi-automatic sniper weapon) with a range of 3,000 plus meters!

  1. Mid, I just read of your experience today. Praise the Lord that nobody was hurt, or worse! It was an experience you won’t want to repeat ever again. What a story and testimony this could be to warn that our time left here is uncertain – and to know that we know that we know where we will spend eternity. It could happen in a moment. Only by the grace of God, I can answer ‘yes’ to all the questions you posed in the blog.I love the promises of Psalm 121: 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore. I was hunting one day about 50 years ago. Out of nowhere a bullet suddenly ripped through my loose fitting shirt between my arm and body. It made two ragged holes in my shirt and broke the skin on my side. I was a couple of inches short of crossing Jordan too. I kept the shirt for years as a ‘show and tell’ piece. This isn’t much of a response to your blog story. I guess I’m just praising God that You and Fred are safe. We would love to have a copy of your poetry book if there’s any left.God bless you my friend!Don

  3. Psalm 36:5 “Your lovingkindness, O Lord, extends to the heavens,Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” Praise God for sparing your life today! You are such a blessing. Of course we know that the alternative is Heaven, and it is much MUCH better than this life, but still…we don’t want to say goodbye quite yet. Hugs!Sharlyn

  7. Thank you, all of you. I worked in the garden today and thought about it all the time. We need to get up every morning and thank the Lord for His love and mercy and for protecting us from the onslaught of the enemy, whatever it might be!! ;)please be sure to leave me your address if you’d like a copy of my book. It was done on a typewriter and I knew nothing about writing. The Lord gave me the poems and I illustrated them and found scripture to go with them, so it could probably qualify as a devotional!! 😉

  8. Oh Mid! I can not imagine the feelings you and your husband will carry from that near miss. Although I am on a new journey back to faith and belief, I must admit that I have to believe there must have been your guardian angel wings around you.

  9. To Anonymous… I know without a doubt that God’s very hand was there between my head and that bullet and that He kept my husband off to the side so that he wouldn’t be in the line of fire. I hope in some way that this speaks to your heart. God never leaves us…we leave Him…He is always waiting with open arms to receive those who come back to Him in faith. If you ever need to talk, I am here!!in love, mid

  10. Mid I had read your headline previously, but am just getting over here. What a frightening experience. I know that in your wisdom and faith, you are considering this a chance to fine tune all the ways you want to be when Jesus comes again in final victory.Selfishly, I’m glad you’re still here with us as so many benefit from your writing and your spirit.

  11. Mid, I just read this blog and I cannot believe that I overlooked it! Here is a scripture that I love regarding God’s grace in The Message.Job 22:26″You’ll take delight in God, the Mighty One, and look to him joyfully, boldly. You’ll pray to him and he’ll listen; he’ll help you do what you’ve promised. You’ll decide what you want and it will happen; your life will be bathed in light. To those who feel low you’ll say, ‘Chin up! Be brave!’ and God will save them. Yes, even the guilty will escape, escape through God’s grace in your life.”Job 22:25-27 (in Context)
