Generations to Come

Posted on July 29, 2009 by admin

I was reading a psalm of David this morning and came across this verse: 71:18- “Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed Thy strength unto this generation, and Thy power to everyone that is to come.”

And that led me to Psalm 78:4 “…shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He hath done.”

And that led me to Psalm 102:18 which really begins in verse 12. David, in the first 11 verses, is overwhelmed about his life…he says in verse 11, “My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.” Then he goes on to say how the Lord endures for ever and His remembrance to all generations. The next verses from 13-17 are a promise to Israel that God will yet have mercy on her. And in verse 18 he says: “This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord.”

What an awesome responsibility to know that we need to pass on our knowledge of the Lord to our children and grandchildren. May our children and our children’s children see God exalted in our lives each day, and may we be bold to declare to them the Name of the Lord and all He has done, to the end that He might be praised!
In His Love,
